Hey Qeo.
I got a bit farther in Vedra 2. It seems like the battle could use quite a bit of re-balancing. Everything from the encounter rate to the weapon special attacks. For example, a weapon skill costing 150SP deals 1550 dmg. A weapon skill costing twice as much, 300SP deals 1750 dmg. +100% SP Cost for only +200dmg?

The story seems fun and all, but with these minor bosses and enemies kicking my a$$ left and right, I dread fighting "difficult" bosses.

It usually does a lot more damage for me.

The attack power is doubled for every new special skill.

As for the encounter rate... after playing final fantasy 9 it seems reasonable. That game drove me nuts.

Hm. I didn't think FF9 was that bad.
I had to leave the cave at the beach twice to buy 30+ potions. There is no healer at that point, so the endless battles were a real pain.

Anyway, it sounds like maybe you don't want feedback? I will keep my mouth shut if that is the case. Could you clarify if you want feedback or not? I certainly don't mean to upset you if you're not looking for constructive criticism.

I've done some testing. I gave a level 20 Zeo a battleaxe, gave him access to all his special attacks [except the optional one] and had him fight a rockboy.

Normal attack - 648 damage

Special Attack 1 - 1098 damage

Special Attack 2 - 1447 damage - more than the 200+ damage, but I suppose it should be at least 2000 if it costs twice as much.

Special Attack 3 - 2335 damage - almost 1000 more damage. I realize on this I made the ATK-F 120 instead of 100.

If I were to change it and have Special Attack 2 do 2000 I'd need to make Special Attack 3 do 4000, and change some of the bosses HP to make them not too easy.

So I'd need to playtest the whole thing again... And I'm not sure you or gameface would want to get to this point in the game again if I make that new version.

I will say Vedra 3 doesn't have this problem, the special attack upgrades are all very different in power. Though, you might have your own complaints about that as it uses a "limit break" system, meaning you can only do them when your bar is full.

But they are more powerful, and it uses zephren's timed hit script whenever you use it, so you need to push the buttons it shows in the time limit - the more buttons you press correctly the stronger it is.

Makes the game more fun in my opinion.

Cool, I like the limit break idea.
I don't need the mechanics to work any certain way; it's just nice when they work as intended.

I plan to play more Vedra 2 in the coming week.

Yeah I've never been able to beat that boss without Kero's spells. I don't remember if I ever beat Deno without the "Dizzy Ring" or not. That ring is part of a sidequest, it shouldn't be required to beat the second boss [well third if you count Kero as the first] - That would be bad game design.

Veo... Vedra 2 has officially become stupid hard. Torio vs Damien. How many hits with Mighty Strike does Damien take? I have tried about 2 dozen times to beat him. I have been able to land x3 Mighty Strikes. If he takes more than 4 Mighty Strikes then this battle is too improbable to possibly beat. Here's my beef with this battle:

Mighty Strike seems to miss 30-40% of the time.
Damien hits for 1500-1750 damage.
Hi Potions recover 2000 Hp.
So for every 4 Hi-Potions I chug I get to try Mighty Strike one more time... with a high miss chance...
At some point I'm gonna have to use a turn drinking an Ether.
And, oh yeah, Damien can critical for my max health.

This isn't a matter of being under-leveled. Torio is MAX level. His equipment is fixed. You're forcing the player to fight a nigh-impossible battle without any room for strategy or variation.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
So... I beat this battle... Just a matter of surviving enough rounds by chugging potions until he starts doing Diablo Slash, which does... absolutely nothing...? Had I known this was a battle with a triggered end that would have been one thing. But as is, I kept resetting every time Mighty Strike missed twice in a row. I'd still say it is too hard, even knowing how it works now.

I just don't get the game design. Why does every boss you fight dish out damage equal to or greater than what you can heal? And why are special moves not useful against random encounters? Enemies die in two normal attacks. And yet a special attack doesn't kill them in one hit. So there is absolutely no point in using them except on bosses. That means my one and only option is to attack! And even in a boss fight, tier 1 moves only deal 10-20%% more damage than a normal attack. Tier 2 moves do about 40-50% more, which is at least good but still quite low considering the SP cost. I felt like Vedra 1 was pretty well balanced if a little grind heavy... What happened to make you want to obliterate the player so hard in Vedra 2, lol?!

I hope you take this feedback seriously instead of assuming I suck at games. I've beaten Persona 3 and 4, the hardest mode of Devil May Cry, a number of NES RPGS, and freaking Einhander if you've ever heard of that game. I beat all the optional stuff in Kingdom Hearts 2 on Hard mode. I've unlocked and beaten Hunk's scenario in Resident Evil 2. Gotten 1/4 D Rank in Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter. The list goes on and on.

Is anyone else having the same experience with Vedra 2???

Thanks for all the feedback! Though it sounds like you aren't having a good time.

I have no idea how you could stand going through the desert without riding the animal... I guess you missed the cactus near the town? You follow him to the things you need to feed the creature... I'm surprised you didn't complain more about that, walking all the way there would be just awful.

As for the battle with damien, his Diablo Strike always misses since it would be a one hit KO if it worked. [It works in the next battle, though...]

I'm pretty confused at how you're having problems with Damien but didn't complain about Balroth or Yushindra, I had problems with them - don't recall ever having a problem in the Damien fight.

Unfortunately, I have no save file... I take it that's it for you then?

You need 3 Ginji Berries to grow the animal, following the cactus shows you where they are.

First one is near the tree closest to the town.

The second one is by some water, you follow the cactus to get to it.

The 3rd one is on the roof of the shop halfway through the desert.

There are no random battles in the desert while riding on it, and it goes very fast. I can't begin to imagine how you even continued to play the game while walking there.

did you see what M\'s trade mark posted?

I've played a little more V2 (passed the behemoth, in the forest)

I was thinking that making V2 and V3 no RTP and drivers included would make it more easier for others to play, those without RMXP.

I've checked that out, it seems like there's no way for people to comment on the projects.

That's probably true.

"RMXP for life" All games beyond the vedra series are going to be made with RPG Maker VX ace. Sure the characters look childish but it just seems more colorful and cheerful than XP was.

I think in the eastern forest you can buy some perfume [I think it as perfume?] from a guy. You take that to where the seamonster was, in the forest west of town and when you use it it's attracted to the scent and can take you to a cave with the first mystery egg.

There's a hint about it in Mayville. You don't have to get all 7 mystery eggs, but getting the first one then going to the "mystery house" will get you a dizzy ring [forgot what it's called] to stop the daze status effect, which is helpful for the next boss - hopefully not required.

It's been a long time since I playtested it, I think I've beaten him without it before but if you need to do that sidequest to even beat him [it's a one on one battle] then that's bad game design.

I think my main problem with Vedra 2 is its overuse of the RTP and how some of the locations seem bland because of it, though I think it looks better the further you get into the game since I save the more interesting tilesets for later.

I've saved most of my resources for Vedra 3. None of the places in that seem bland to me so it doesn't have that problem.

Wow I never had to do that, did you upgrade Leon's gun?

And did you equip the dizzy/daze ring on Leon?

With those two things, he should be beaten pretty easily.

Yeah I don't think I ever beat him without it. So it turns out the first sidequest is actually something you have to do? That sucks. But don't worry, none of the other mystery eggs are required.

That's a funny icon by the way xD

Let me get back to you on that, will make time this week. Going to re-add a new quick link for the Vedra Trilogy with the new scheme.

Did you get a chance to make a portable version for Vedra2?

Oh awesome~

Well, I don't really think many more people will play it even if I do that. It takes a long time uploading it to dropbox so I'd only do it if it was worth it.

I'll upload to my dropbox if it's ok with you?
The way I see it, if the download is available for pc without rmxp, the more players you will have playing this free and fun story rpg.

edit: hotlink added to the right +

If I see that there is people interested in playing if they didn't have to download rmxp then I'd do it. I'm not sure how I'm going to send you the file, sending such large files through e-mails tend to not work.

Thanks Smile
