I recently up graded my "obsolete" shelf system to what my friend Victor termed a true "Audiophile" system. I have been waiting for a long time for the right deal to come around, I was going to get my component system one piece at a time if I had to. Then the opportunity presented itself. I found an Onkyo 7 piece component system that was worth $2,500.00 brand new for sale for $300.00 bucks. The ad provided the model numbers of the system and some quick googling I found that just two of the components (the pre-amp and the power amp) were worth $295.00 Granted the record player was crap (because if it wasn't DJ quaility most record players from the mid eighties on were crap) I already had a decent early eighties Techinics record player. Now I needed speakers and wouldn't you know I found some rare Jennings Research Inc. Elan Tower speakers for around the $250.00 range for a pair (similar ads across the country were selling at $500.00 a pair. These are sweet speakers not only were they walnut veener solid made swivel based speakers, they have high and mid frequency transducer controls (way cool). So I made off like a bandit on a way cool system. Am I happy, I'd have to say yes. I got my system... now for the vinyl/cassette tape/cd collection. If you have any of these "obsolete" medias and are willing to part with them for a reasonable price, let me know.
