The books are being hailed as the next "Harry Potter series" I just bought all of them yesterday (because I am Obsessive Compulsive lol) and haven't been able to put it down. I am half way through the first one, "The Lightning Thief" and it's a great read, who care if it was written for sixth graders. It's a story of a young boy, Percy Jackson, who is a hero (Half-blooded human/god) and his dealing with mythical creatures, gods, and everything else that comes along with GREAT Greek Myth. Now I wonder, is the movie going to deliver? Question, does Harry Potter deliver? The books are of legend and the movie are a great piece of eye candy but do they deliver? Anytime you get a movie based on a book you always get those who don't like it. When I see a movie based on a book I never go in believing that the movie will come close to the book, just so I am not too disappointed. I enjoy the Harry Potter series very much (both books and movies) but I don't even pretend to think that with all it's great special effects that the movie can compare with what I come up with in my imagination. Now remember this kiddies THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR IMAGINATION. I would like to hear your thoughts. Yeah I started out on Percy Jackson and ended up on a rant of movies vs books, but feel free to chime in and let us know what you think.

ok that's it... I need to read this "Lightening Thief"
I keep hearing good things about these new twists to
some old legends...

even Gemini had mentioned it here before
http://gameface101.playogame.com/the-comic-shop-books-art-stories-characters-f11/the-dark-tower-series-t98.htm

I couldn't agree with you more about imagination,
but I think another key element that movies lack
(due to time constraints) is character depth...
having no time limit (as far as the readers time)
is something a great writer takes advantage of.

As for movies, sound control is key to a horror film
as computer graphics to a sci-fi action.

but when it comes to Greek Myth with new twists...
it's going to require some clever costume designs,
character concepts, and story conflicts on top of
the expected CGI and cinematography to do the
books any justice.

ok I'll have to stop by the library to check out
Percy Jackson's work... ^,^
